Amending your payments

Payment methods

It is a condition of the majority of our mortgages that you pay by Direct Debit, which many of our customers also find to be the most convenient way to make their monthly payment. However, if you are experiencing any problems with meeting your ongoing mortgage commitments please contact us as soon as possible and we can look at short-term alternative payment options with you if necessary.

Paying by Direct Debit

Your mortgage should be paid by Direct Debit, but on some older mortgages you may still be able to pay by Standing Order or via card payments. To find out what payment options are available to you please contact us.

What happens next?

We will write to confirm your Direct Debit details. Note that some savings accounts cannot process Direct Debits. Check with your bank or building society before sending us the form if you are unsure.

Setting up a Direct Debit?

If you currently pay by Standing Order, cash, cheque or card, you may find it more convenient to pay your mortgage by Direct Debit. This gives you the added protection of the Direct Debit guarantee scheme. To set up a Direct Debit, simply print & complete the appropriate Direct Debit form below and send it to us. We will do the rest. There are different forms for Bradford & Bingley and Mortgage Express customers so please select the relevant form.

Important: Please fully complete ALL boxes on the form and include your Mortgage Address and Mortgage Account Number, before sending it to the address shown on the form. Incorrectly completed instructions cannot be processed and may delay your monthly payments.

It can take up to 14 days for a Direct Debit to become active. So, we would recommend that you return the form 3 weeks prior to the first mortgage payment date. Until you receive confirmation from us saying that your Direct Debit is set up, please continue to pay your mortgage by other means.

We will write to confirm your Direct Debit details. Note that some savings accounts cannot process Direct Debits. Check with your bank or building society before sending us the form if you are unsure.

Amending a Direct Debit

You may wish to amend the date of your mortgage payment or the account that the Direct Debit is paid from. To do this, please contact us and we'll take you through the simple process. To amend a Standing Order you will need to contact your own bank or building society who can arrange this for you.

Bank Transfer

An online transfer is a direct payment made manually from your account to another, using an online banking facility.

If you want to make your monthly mortgage payments in this way, please ensure that the correct payment amount reaches your mortgage account with us, by the correct date each month.

You are the only person who can alter your online transfer once it's set up. So you would need to remember to go online and update the payment if the amount you are required to pay each month changed. This could happen if the interest rate on your mortgage went up or down in the future.

Bank Details

Regardless of whether your mortgage is with Bradford & Bingley or Mortgage Express you can pay your normal monthly subscription to the following details. If you need to make a different type of payment such as a Redemption, Capital Repayment or other Fee then please see below under the 'Other types of Payment' section.

Online Transfer
Sort Code: 13-49-99
Account number: 00000199
Reference number: your mortgage account number

*If you have a commercial mortgage please contact us for the correct bank details.

You should allow 3-5 working days for bank payments to be processed and applied to your mortgage account.

If you have more than one mortgage you need to send individual payments with each account number as a reference.

Please take care when entering the sort code, account number and reference details as your payment will be rejected and returned if your details are incorrect. If your payment is rejected or does not reach us, this may lead to your account falling into arrears. Having an account in arrears may affect your credit score and ability to get finance in the future.
